MEDIA HEADQUARTERS BUILDINGS
REX is pleased to release our Media Headquarters Buildings design. The 240,200 m² (2,600,000 sf) design for sister media companies features offices, studios, and common facilities (agora, amphitheater, auditorium, café, canteen, employee lounge, executive lounge, fine dining, gallery, health club, majlis, and theater).
Both sides of each tower incorporate 14.5 m (47.5 ft) diameter, retractable sunshades to shield the headquarters from the unrelenting Middle Eastern sun. The geometry and overlap of the sunshades reference a traditional Arab Mashrabiya pattern, meeting the media companies’ shared desire for infusing the buildings with local iconography.
The project has been nominated for an AZ People's Choice Award in the Unbuilt Competitions category! Click here to vote (you must register first).
CALVIN KLEIN CONCEPT HOUSE SINGAPORE
April 10, 2014
REX is honored to announce that together with Calvin Klein we have designed and constructed a special architectural installation, situated inside an abandoned hangar at the former Kallang Airport in Singapore—a Concept House for Calvin Klein. The House will be the centerpiece of an event held this Friday, 11 April 2014 celebrating Calvin Klein’s rapid growth in the region. The structure—which “mingles the modernist sophistication befitting a Calvin Klein home with a little architectural disobedience and a touch of voyeurism”—will feature thirty models sporting the various collections and pieces from the home collection on display. Each label will have its own distinct space in the house.
REX WINS MERCEDES-BENZ CAMPUS EXTENSION AND FUTURE CENTER
January 31, 2014
REX is pleased to announce that we have won the international competition to expand the Mercedes-Benz World in Stuttgart Germany, including design of the new Mercedes-Benz Future Center—a showcase of the brand’s near and far future visions. The invited competition—launched in the summer of 2012—initially included 8 firms from around the world. In early 2013, the 18-member jury invited 3 firms to revise and optimize their proposals, an effort concluding with REX’s selection on 31 January 2014. The Mercedes-Benz World, opened on May 19, 2006, currently consists of the Mercedes-Benz Museum (displaying the brand’s past) and the Mercedes-Benz Center (displaying the brand’s present). With the inclusion of REX’s design for the Mercedes-Benz Future Center and other campus facilities, the Mercedes-Benz World will form a global epicenter for experiencing the past, present, and future of the brand, the automobile, and mobility in general.
